On the edge of the beach, on one of the highest grounds of the Island and framed by palm trees, lies the Church (sometimes also referred to as Chapel) of Santo António, from the sixteenth century. Erected on an old defensive redoubt, the Church is walled and built in stone masonry, with wooden doors. It comprises one chamber and one chancel, facing South-West.
It underwent rebuilding works in 1810 and 1969.
