Community Co-Labs
Community archives
Labs should support oral histories, photography, video, and documentation made with and for the communities themselves.
Co-Labs
The Heritage Lab Co-Labs preserve collective memory and community narratives while also connecting heritage across oceans, trade routes, and related landscapes. They are made by and for the communities they document.
Public map logic
Jumping from unofficial to official heritage status changes how a site is owned, narrated, and interpreted. The Co-Labs make room for self-reflection, oral history, photography, video, and community archives that challenge authorized heritage narratives.
Global network
Click any site on the globe to explore its stories and community archives.
Current geographies
The live WordPress maps page names Istanbul, Delma Island, Jaffa, Ilha de Moçambique, Umm Al Quwain, Zanzibar, Kerala, and Gaza as part of the broader Co-Labs ecosystem.

How the new system should behave
The rebuilt Co-Labs section needs to preserve the public logic of the WordPress maps page while making the lab model operational in the new stack.
Community Co-Labs
Labs should support oral histories, photography, video, and documentation made with and for the communities themselves.
Global routes
The platform also needs to show how sites connect across trade routes, maritime histories, and larger regional heritage landscapes.
Platform requirement
Every lab should have coordinates, map center, zoom logic, and published story markers that link to full narrative pages.
Workflow
Super admins create labs, lab admins govern local publishing, and curators contribute stories and media points.
Live platform direction
Independent public access
The platform brings together researchers, educators, developers, and community organizers in one public environment.
Provisioned lab packages
A new lab should launch with slug, map config, owner assignment, and a working story workflow from day one.
Ocean and route thinking
The Co-Labs are not only local maps. They are also instruments for understanding shared heritage across connected landscapes.
